To disciple, mentor, and empower young people with the lessons of Christ and the tools required to be successful in life.

SAMARITAN RESCUE MISSION

OUR VISION

Our comprehensive objective is to glorify our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, by carrying out his great commission (Matthew 28:19-20). Specifically, we believe God has called us to the inner city areas of Birmingham, to focus on mentoring and empowering young people in a learning environment that expands their perspectives and make them aware of life’s possibilities.

The inner city areas of Birmingham has a history of complex urban ills, it stands at the heart of a metropolitan area where beneath the prosperity of its suburbs are equally vexing problems. While Birmingham is blessed with an ever-growing, world-class medical center, the metro area faces tremendous challenges, which include poverty, falling population, crime, blight and failing schools. Samaritan Rescue Mission has a vision to reverse this trend, and restore hope to young people and the metro area as a whole.

WE ENVISION TRANSFORMATION

We envision young people and communities redeemed from the power and curse of sin, and then transformed through the power and working of the Holy Spirit. We envision that the fabric of the inner city areas of Birmingham will be transformed in five to ten years, with the Christian influence being increasingly felt in homes, businesses, education, politics, as well as the social and cultural structures.

We have ten core values that guide our organization.
These values describe the culture that we seek to create
at Samaritan Rescue Mission
.

We aspire to be . . .

  1. Biblically Faithful: We make Scripture the final authority rather than tradition. We seek to be innovative and flexible if we do not violate the basic tenants of our faith.
  2. Culturally Relevant: We try to adopt our ministry to current needs and trends in the inner-city areas of Birmingham, and the world without compromising biblical absolutes. We attempt to communicate the good news of Jesus Christ to young people in Birmingham inner city areas, and the world in ways they can understand and appreciate.
  3. Grace Oriented: We emphasize God’s unconditional acceptance and full forgiveness through Jesus Christ. We attempt to motivate young people through love and thankfulness rather than guilt, shame, and duty. We attempt to emphasize that if at risk behavior is related to broken relationship, then relationship with Christ is the answer to restoring lives through the gospel of Christ.
  4. Individual & Community Development: We seek to help young people identify and discover their God-given potential by providing educational opportunities, counseling services, and other services.
  5. Committed to Excellence: We emphasize the achievement of excellence in all our pursuits because we believe the God of the universe demands our best. The Lord Himself is a God of excellence, as shown by the beauty of creation; further, He gave the best that He had, His only Son, for us. We create the atmosphere and environment where every young person can exercise and flourish in his or her God-given ability.
  6. Committed to Integrity: We challenge our organization, board members, executives, staff, volunteers, and the young people we serve to adhere to the highest ethical standards. We believe that as a matter of pragmatic self-interest, the community should expect integrity, honesty, fairness, openness, respect, and responsibility as our basic commitment to them. Therefore, we will pursue methods and policies which will facilitate our integrity or our commitment to biblical truth.
  7. Responsible Stewards: We encourage excellent management of materials and human resources. We realize that the resources entrusted to us are vital to accomplishing our mission; therefore, managing those resources efficiently is essential to our overall viability. We support and recognize our volunteers, and appropriately compensate staff. We abide by clear conflict of interest policies and avoid abuse of power. We exercise due diligence in all program and fiscal matters including the generation, management, and acceptance of funds.
  8. Committed to Efficiency: With such large goals and aspirations, we have no choice but to make it happen and get it done! Our commitment to efficiency, allows us to prioritize our goals and execute our tasks based on our desire to succeed and the burden we share for young people that comes from the compassion for souls. We value the world’s true currency- Time – and we are urgent and effective with our time and the young people we serve.
  9. Legally Compliant: We strive to be knowledgeable and comply with all national laws, regulations, and applicable international conventions.
  10. Responsible in Governance: Transparency is a hallmark of our governing philosophy. We aspire to the ideas of an active and effective governing body that is responsible for setting the mission and strategic direction of the organization and oversight of the finances, operations, and policies of the organization. We ensure that the organization’s board members have the requisite skills and experience to carry out their duties and that all members understand and fulfill their governing duties,  acting for the benefit of the organization and its public purpose. We ensure that the organization has a conflict-of-interest policy that ensures that any conflicts of interest or the appearance thereof are avoided or appropriately managed through disclosure, recusal, or other means. We ensure that the organization promotes working relationships with board members, staff, volunteers, and program beneficiaries that are based on mutual respect, fairness, and openness. We ensure that the organization is fair and inclusive in its hiring and promotion policies and practices for all board, staff, and volunteer positions. We ensure that policies of the organization are in writing, clearly articulated and officially adopted.

At Samaritan Rescue mission, our vision is to mentor and empower young people to achieve their full potential. We envision helping young people develop the skills needed to break destructive habits and provide opportunities to make successful transition from broken hopes to productive individuals in their communities. We envision providing hope and a pathway for young people out of academic failures in the classroom and potential for a life of crime.

Our Liberia Mission

Samaritan Rescue Mission’s Liberia Mission Profile indicating the organization’s contribution to the Education, Religious, Economic and Social sectors of Liberia.

The organization operates exclusively for religious, charitable, and educational purposes. The Liberia mission arm of Samaritan Rescue Mission was established to rescue, redeem, and restore unreached youths in impoverished neighborhoods, rural communities, villages, and towns of Liberia. The organization activities were extended to Liberia as a direct response to the tremendous challenges that has plagued the country’s youths, because of the effects of the devastating civil war. The organization’s specific focus is in the areas of Primary education, social welfare, youth mentorship/development and discipleship. The organization’s Liberia mission was established to strengthen orphan/childcare, primary education, develop youth mentorship programs and vocational training, and discipleship, specifically in impoverished neighborhoods, rural communities, villages, and towns.

The incredible devastation of the nation’s social, educational, and economic fabric brought about by decades of war and destruction give birth to this vision. The organization envisions the strengthening of childcare and development, primary education and discipleship in these impoverished neighborhoods, rural communities, villages, and towns as an important factor to the success of a strong and vibrant society. The organization is cognizant of the fact that the government of Liberia is the single most employer in the nation. The organization envisions empowering the youths to create their own jobs by providing vocational training opportunities and micro-financing programs in tailoring, carpentry, masonry /construction, etc. The organization believes that small business job creation, especially amongst the youths will stimulate the economy and help reduce poverty and crime.

Samaritan Rescue Mission’s Liberia mission has already embarked upon making such investments in rural community, village, and impoverished neighborhood such as Genewoe town in Bong County, Liberia and Johnsonville township in Montserrado County, Liberia. The organization is currently constructing an elementary school and clinic in Genewoe town and a five-bedroom/five-bathroom orphanage with state-of-the-art kitchen, cafeteria, playroom, library, conference room, offices, bathroom, reception. The organization is also partnering with local schools and churches to provide tuition and scholarships programs, afterschool study programs, school feeding programs and teacher empowerment training programs to impoverished neighborhoods and rural communities.

Samaritan Rescue Mission is a Christian nonprofit organization that considers the importance of preparing the body, soul, and spirit. We believe in the preparation of the whole person, and through that endeavor creating an empowered and successful society. The organization envisions that through the extension of primary education, the establishment of orphanages, mentorship and discipleship programs, the transformation of youths in impoverished neighborhoods, rural communities, villages, and towns will be accelerated to achieve the change that Liberia is so desperately in need of in the span of ten to fifteen years. The organization envisions that the Christian influence will be realized in homes, schools, businesses, and politics.
