TURNAROUND
MENTORING PROGRAM

Turnaround is Samaritan Rescue Mission’s emergency program to youths at the middle school and high school levels. The Turnaround program is design for middle school and high school youths who have fallen behind on their academic work and are failing. They are youths identified through the partnership of Samaritan Rescue Mission’s Community Outreach Coordinator with the Birmingham City Schools. As a result of this partnership youths are paired with tutors/mentors to participate in emergency academic framework gear toward rescue and restoration. The program focuses on strategies for dealing with the high dropout rate through homework assistance and constructive after-school activities in an atmosphere where learning and success in school are valued.
Students do not need prior approval from anyone to attend, however we encourage attendance through our partnership with the Birmingham City Schools and students are required to sign in for record and attendance purposes when they arrive at the study center. Students who come to the study center and accomplish school work are provided with snacks and other rewards.
Trailblazer is the central program of Samaritan Rescue Mission. The Trailblazer program is design for high school dropouts and youths caught up in the juvenile court system of Birmingham City and Jefferson County Alabama. Studies have shown that: 75 percent of homeless or runaway youths have dropped out or will drop out of school; 46 percent of runaway and homeless youth reported being emotionally abused, and 17 percent reported being forced into unwanted sexual activity by family or household member. Students who leave high school without earning a diploma are at a high risk of ending up a destitute, becoming welfare dependent, having children at young ages or inopportune times, and worse, a life of crime.

TRAILBLAZER
MENTORING PROGRAM

The national runaway switchboard also estimates that on any given night there are approximately 1.3 million homeless youth living unsupervised on the streets of America’s cities, in abandoned buildings, with friends or with strangers. The Trailblazers program of Samaritan Rescue Mission comprise of youths that are identified through the partnership of Samaritan Rescue Mission’s Community Outreach Coordinator and the juvenile court system of Birmingham and Jefferson County of Alabama. As a result of this partnership youths are paired with mentors to participate in a structured program of mentoring, Christian discipleship and support.

THE JUVENILE
REHABILATION PROGRAM

Samaritan Rescue Mission’s program to high school dropouts and youths caught up in the juvenile court system of Birmingham City and Jefferson County Alabama is establish to break the trend recorded by the national dropout prevention center, that over 65% of incarcerated criminals in the U.S are high school dropouts, making it the main starters of a life of crime. Furthermore, it is a well-documented fact that student dropouts exact a heavy price to the community. This is the purpose of Samaritan Rescue Mission’s Trailblazer program, to provide religious community outreach through mentoring and Christian discipleship to high school dropouts and youths caught up in the juvenile court system of Birmingham City and Jefferson County Alabama,
such as Individualized Case Management and Therapeutic Counseling, Life Skill Development, Personal and Social Skill Development, General Educational Development or GED, College Enrollment Preparation, Consumer Education, Budgeting and Money Management Skill Development, Computer Literacy, Vocational Skill Development, Resume Development, Job Training Skills and Job Placement, Driver’s Education and Obtaining Driver Licenses for High School Students, High School Dropouts and youths caught up in the Birmingham City and Jefferson County juvenile court system.

We envision helping young people develop the skills needed to break destructive habits and provide opportunities to make successful transition from broken hopes to productive individuals in their communities.
